Annual Basic Service For stored pressure and gas cartridge fire extinguisher servicing, the basic service is very similar. The first three things we check for include:

With a stored pressure appliance, we then check for blockages and corrosion in the discharge hose and ensure that the contents, such as powder or water, have not reduced by more than 10%. The discharge hose is also inspected for gas cartridge operated equipment.
For powder and water-based extinguishers, the contents are inspected to ensure the powder has not clumped and the water has not reduced. The lining of the cylinder is also checked for signs of damage.
Once the basic fire extinguisher servicing is complete, the service label is updated. If your equipment is over 10 years old, it is recommended that you replace it with a new one.
Extended Service Most extinguishers require an extended service every 5 years. However, it is 10 years for CO2 appliances. This process involves emptying the cylinder, inspecting it for internal damage, refilling and then re-pressurising so it is in working order again.
The extended service is a more thorough fire extinguisher servicing procedure than the annual basic one. Components such as the head cap and O ring are removed and replaced. The water, powder or generic chemicals are inspected to ensure they are still of a high quality for use. If not, for example if the powder has clumped, it is replaced.
